Dataset Type: Statistical data
Name of Data Source: Florida Department of Law Enforcement Uniform Crime Report, Part 1
Datasource Abbreviation (dataset): FDLE_CRIME_1
Description of Datasource: These data are the annually reported crimes in the Uniform Crime Report (UCR), Part 1. The UCR is a national system that provides an overview of crime statistics throughout the country. The crimes reported as Part I include: Murder and Nonnegligent Manslaughter, Forcible Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny-Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft, Arson (not included in report). The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports the UCR, Part 1 crimes to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Please note that the numbers obtained locally might not match those reported by the FDLE or FBI, since those agencies might aggregate responses with other agencies. All data obtained from the Atlas are provisional, subject to change and provided without warranty of any kind.
How Often Data is Transferred to the Atlas: Annually
Period of Record Within the Atlas: 2012 - 2015
Date Added/Updated on Atlas: 9/20/2016
Disclaimer/Use Constraints: The data presented are for “reported” crimes that are part of the UCR Part 1 report, not actual crime. They do not represent the total crime in the County. If a reported crime includes more than one offense, then only the most serious offense is reported and the lesser offense is not reported. For example, if a car is stolen and the driver is murdered, only the murder would be reported in the Uniform Crime Report, Part 1. (Please note that when local crime data is obtained from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, they include all reported crimes in their local reports. The UCR limits the reporting to only one crime per reported incident.)
