Hillsborough Mosquito Control Spraying By Air August 5, 6 and 7

Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control will be spraying the pesticide Dibrom 14 by air to control adult mosquitoes each morning between the hours of 12 a.m. (midnight) and 8:30 a.m. from Thursday, August 5, through Saturday, August 7.

The spraying will be done by a King Air C90 Airplane, at an altitude of 300 feet above ground level. For further information, contact Hillsborough County Public Works Customer Satisfaction at (813) 635-5400.

Mosquito Control Spraying By Air Today and Tuesday

Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control will be spraying the pesticide Dibrom 14 by air to control adult mosquitoes on Monday August 2, 2010 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. and Tuesday August 3, 2010 between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

These applications will cover most of Northern Hillsborough County, in order to target areas with evidence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis present in sentinel chickens and/or horses. Click on link for more location details.

County’s Mosquito Control Unit Actively Monitoring and Fighting Mosquitoes Year-Around

The Hillsborough County Mosquito Control Unit has 25 staff members and a diversified fleet of vehicles, including helicopters and a plane, airboats, trucks, and ATV’s to inspect for and fight mosquitoes. As part of its surveillance program, the Unit operates 15 sentinel chicken sites with 90 chickens, and 74 mosquito surveillance traps throughout the county. Mosquito Control Spraying By Air Tomorrow Morning

Hillsborough County Mosquito and Aquatic Weed Control will be spraying the pesticide Dibrom 14 by air to control adult mosquitoes on Thursday, July 22, between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. at the following location: Northwest County area with the boundaries of Tarpon Springs Road as the northern boundary, Pinellas County line as the western boundary, Linebaugh Avenue as the southern boundary, and ˝ mile west of the Veteran’s Expressway as the eastern boundary.

EPA Recognizes Hillsborough County for Taylor Road Landfill Superfund Site Reuse

At a ceremony this morning, EPA honored Hillsborough County, Florida, with the 2010 EPA Region 4 Excellence in Site Reuse award for creatively reusing the former Taylor Road Landfill site to serve multiple purposes that benefit the community. Region 4 created the Excellence in Site Reuse award to recognize those who have gone above and beyond in redeveloping a Superfund site.

Public Meeting To Discuss Improvements at Intersection of Waters Avenue and Sheldon Road

Rescheduled Public Meeting to Discuss Proposed Construction of New Gymnasium at Westchase Rec Center

Hillsborough County will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed construction of a new multi-purpose gymnasium adjacent to the existing recreation center at 9791 Westchase Drive in Tampa. The proposed site plan includes the construction of 9,000 - 10,000 sq. foot gymnasium adjacent to the existing recreation center. The plan includes a gym, weight room, restrooms, storage rooms, mechanical room, and electrical room. The project will also require renovations to the existing recreation center facility. The construction cost for this project is approximately $1.3 million, paid through Community Investment Tax funds. Public comment is welcome.

Public Meeting To Discuss University Area Drainage Improvements

Hillsborough County will hold a public meeting to discuss several drainage improvements projects in the University area. The proposed projects are intended to provide flooding relief in the University Community and Duck Pond Area, and will include upgrading the existing drainage system. The projects are co-funded by Hillsborough County, Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and by legislative grants through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
